2013
Another approach to the Holocaust
through the book “Number the Stars”,
by Lois Lowry.
Virtual Exchange Project
Number the Stars, otro
acercamiento al Holocausto
Fundamentos
lengua.
Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry
 Rationale:
 Number the Stars, another approach to the Holocaust,
aims at uncover more information about the Holocaust,
especially about the Danish resistance movement during
this period.
 Students will read, analyze and synthesize texts in English
related to the the preview, during-the-war, and aftermath;
focusing on the resistance movement in Denmark.
 In addition, they will read the book “Number the Stars”,
and reflect spokenly and writtenly about various passages
in order to develop more awareness about the Holocaust
and a higher level of critical thinking in the target
language.
Students’works
 “The
Danish resistance
movement, assisted by
many ordinary citizens,
coordinated the flight of
some 7,200 Jews to safety
in nearby neutral Sweden.
 The most important year
was 1943 because was when
the German police began
searching for and arresting
Jews on the night of
October 1, the Danish
police
refused
to
cooperate”.
 The
holacaust was a
terrible period of human
history, also take place to
the second world war, in
my opinion was a terrible
human act and thinking
because how you can think
to do something like kill 6
million people.
Students’works
 I think the holocaust was
the worst thing that
happened in the XX
century, but i also think
it was needed for the
humanity to make us see
what we can do to
ourselves.
 In
June
1944,
succumbing to public
pressure following the
deportation of about 470
Jews from Denmark to
Theresienstadt,
the
Germans permitted two
delegates
from
the
International Red Cross
and one from the Danish
Red Cross to visit the
camp-ghetto.

Virtual
exchange
project
Fundamentos
Rationale:
 This project aims at providing students with the
opportunity to exchange their knowledge about the
Holocaust with students in a different country undergoing
a Holocaust project too.
 Therefore, our students will be friends with a Facebook
group created for this purpose; will answer and create posts
on a different page called Ning, as they reflect about their
experiences in the long hours of instruction.
 They will enhance their writing skills, meet new studentsfriends, and develop more their critical thinking skill in the
target language.
