I want to play soccer.
Quieren vivir en
Colombia.
They want to live in
Colombia.
Mi hermana quiere
comprar zapatos
nuevos.
My sister wants to buy
new shoes.
Another way to express your
wishes is with Gustaría. It is
more polite.
Gustaría is be used with the
indirect object pronouns just like
gusta(n).
Notice the formation:



Me gustaría – I
would like
Te gustaría – you
would like
Le gustaría – he,
she, you would like



Nos gustaría – we
would like
Os gustaría – you
would like
Les gustaría – they,
you would like
Using the phrases “a mi”, “a ti”, or “a nosotros” gives extra
emphasis to “me”, “te”, and “nos”.
Examples:





(A mí) me gustaría
comprar una blusa
nueva.
I would like to buy a
new blouse.
(A ti) te gustaría
tener una fiesta.
You would like to
have a party.
(A nosotros) nos
gustaría ir a Bogota.






(A ella) le gustaría leer ese libro.
She would like to read that book.
(A mis amigos) les gustaría ver la
pelicula.
My friends would like to see that film.
(A Ud.) le gustaría tocar el piano.
You would like to play the piano.
Using the phrases “a ella”, “a mis amigos”, and “a Ud.” clarifies the third
person pronouns “le”, and “les”.
Traduzcan:
Translate:
Quiero salir.
I want to leave.
Me gustaría salir.
I would like to leave.




No queremos tener el examen.
We don’t want to have the test.
No nos gustaría tener el examen.
We would not like to have the test.




Juan quiere caminar al parque.
Juan wants to walk to the park.
A Juan le gustaría caminar al parque.
Juan would like to walk to the park.




Vosotros queréis comer las arepas.
You all want to eat the arepas.
A vosotros os gustaría comer las arepas.
You all would like to eat the arepas.




Ellas quieren montar el caballo.
They want to ride on the horse.
A ellas les gustarían montar el caballo.
They would like to ride on the horse.




Quieres tomar una limonada.
You want to drink a lemonade.
A ti te gustaria tomar una limonada.
You would like to drink a lemonade.
Ahora, me gustaría ir.
