Educational Tie In:
One of the staples of democracy is that “everyone is equal before the law.”
John Adams defends the British Soldiers who were involved with the Boston Massacre.
His argument was that they deserved a fair trial, even if the entire city of Boston wanted
to see them hanged for their involvement regardless of the facts of the case.
Adams defends the soldiers, thus guaranteeing their equality before the law.
Adams is then recruited by the Sons of
Liberty to argue their points against the
crown. His impartiality will make him an
asset. Adams declines.
Adams is then recruited by the King to
work with England because of his
impartiality in the trial. Adams declines.
