2. On the left side of the Edit panel, click the
desired question type.
Getting Started
Creating a New StudyMate File
1. Start StudyMate.
2. Under the Start tab, click the Create button.
3. Fill out File Name, Author, File Description,
and Keywords.
4. Click OK.
a. The Edit panel appears.
5. Create and add question(s) as desired.
Opening a StudyMate File
1. Under the Start tab, click the Open button.
2. Locate and select the desired file, click
Open.
a. Note: If the desired file is not shown on
the default location, click Browse… to
locate the file.
3. The Edit panel appears.

3. Fill out/edit the Title of Item and other
available options.
a. Note: Options will be different
depending on the question types.
4. Click Add to End of List or Insert into List.
a. Note: If desired, Preview the question
before adding to the Item List.
Adding a New Topic
1. While creating or editing a question, click
the Topic drop-down list > - add/edit topic .
a. The Modify or Delete Topic window
appears.
2. In the Add New Topic section, enter the
topic name and click Add Topic.

1. Create or open a StudyMate file.
Editing an Existing Topic
1. While creating or editing a question, click
the Topic drop-down list > -add/edit topic -.

2. In the Modify or Delete Topic section, click
the drop-down list and select the desired
topic.
3. In the second field, enter the new topic
name, click Replace.
a. Note: To remove a topic, click Delete.
Editing an Existing Question
1. Open a StudyMate file.
2. On the Edit panel, locate the desired
question in the Item List section.
3. Click the context menu for the desired
question > Edit.
4. Edit the questions as desired.
5. Click Save Changes when finished.
Inserting a Math Equation
1. While creating or editing a question, place
the cursor at the desired location in the text
area.
2. From the Edit Toolbar, click the Equation
Editor icon.

3. Use the Equation Editor Toolbar buttons to
insert the desired symbol(s).
4. When finished inserting symbol(s), click File
> Exit
a. Note: The equation will be saved.
5. On the Equation Editor window, click OK.
a. If desired, use the Image Scale Factor to
change the equation size.
6. Click Add to End of List or Insert into List.
a. Note: Click Save Changes if editing an
existing question.
Inserting an Image
1. While creating or editing a question, place
the cursor at the desired location in the text
area.
2. From the Edit Toolbar, click the Insert
Image icon (the camera icon).
3. Locate and select the desired image file,
click Open.
4. Enter the alternate text.
5. If desired, edit the Scale Tool field, click OK.
6. Click Add to End of List or Insert into List.
a. Note: Click Save Changes if editing an
existing question.
Preview & Publish Panel
Previewing a StudyMate File
1. Create or open a StudyMate file.
2. Click the Preview & Publish tab.
3. On the left side, click Preview.

4. Select Preview with Settings or Preview
without Settings. Click Preview the File.

11. Click the Blackboard drop-down list and
select the desired server.
a. To add a new server, select - add new
server - .
b. Select No, I want to enter the server
settings manually, click Next >.
c. In the first field, enter
https://ipfw.blackboard.com/
a. The Preview window appears.
5. If desired, click the Activity drop-down
menu and change the activity type.
d. Open a Web browser and login to IPFW
Blackboard Learn.
e. Navigate to the desired course, copy
the course URL.
f. Return to StudyMate server options
window, paste the course URL in the
second field.
6. Click OK to exit.
Publishing to Blackboard Learn
1. Create or open a StudyMate file.
2. Click the Preview & Publish tab.
3. On the left, click Publish.
4. Click Publish Wizard.
a. The StudyMate Publish Wizard window
appears.
5. Check or uncheck the activity types to be
included in the file.
6. Click Next >.
7. Ensure Publish to Learning Management
System is selected, click Next >.
8. Ensure Blackboard 7.x – 9.x learning system
is selected.
9. In the second section, select Adobe Flash
package.
10. Click Next >.

g. Click Extract >>.
i. Note: The detail Blackboard
information will be updated
automatically.
h. Fill out the Description, User name, and
Password.
i. If desired, check Remember User
Name and Password.
i. Click OK.
Click Next >.
Click the Course drop-down list and select
the desired course.
Navigate to the desired area where the
StudyMate file will be placed, click Next >.
Fill out the title and optional text fields,
click Next >.
Wait until the publishing process finishes.

17. Click Finish when the process is completed.
Printing a StudyMate File
1. Open or create a StudyMate file.
2. Click the Preview & Publish tab.
3. On the left, click Print Options.
4. To change the default format settings, click
Settings.
a. Edit any desired options.
b. Click OK.
5. To edit headers, click Edit Headers.
a. Fill out the desired field(s).
b. Click OK.
6. Click Print Preview, Save to File, or Send to
Printer to finished.
Advanced Settings
Changing the Background Color
Open or create a StudyMate file.
Click the Settings tab.
On the left side, click Other Settings.
In the Color Setting * section, click the
drop-down list and select the desired color
option.
5. If desired, click the Preview & Publish tab >
Preview > Preview the File to preview the
new color.
