ORDER
Vide paper read first, the Board of Studies in Urdu and Persian at its Meeting held on
04.01.2016 finalised and approved the Rules and Regulations, Curriculum and Syllabus of Adib-IFazil Urdu (Preliminary) wef 2016 Admission onwards.
The New Regulations will be called “Calicut University Regulations for Adib‐i‐Fazil (Urdu)
Preliminary Course Under Grading system effect from 2016 Admission.
The School of Distance Education shall follow the regulations framed here in for Adib‐i‐ Fazil
(Urdu) Preliminary course under the above faculty with effect from 2016 Admission.
The Duration of Adib‐i‐Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course shall be two years.
The above resolution of the Board of Studies was approved by the Faculty of Language
and Literature at its Meeting held on 19.01.2016 vide paper read second .
Vide paper read third, the Academic Council at its meeting held on 20.01.2016 approved the
Minutes of the Meeting of the Faculty of Language and Literature held on 19.01.2016.
Sanction has therefore been accorded to implement the Revised Syllabus of Adib i Fazil Preliminary
with effect from 2016 Admission onwards.
Orders are issued accordingly implementing the Revised Syllabus of Adib i Fazil Preliminary with
effect from 2016 Admission.

Regulations for Adib­i­Fazil(Urdu) Preliminary Course
(With effect from 2016 admission and onwards)
1. TITLE
1.1 These regulations shall be called “Calicut University Regulations for Adib‐i‐Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course Under Grading system effect from 2016 Admission. 2. SCOPE, APPLICATION & COMMENCEMENT
2.1 The regulations provided herein shall apply to the Adib‐i‐Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course Under the Faculty of Languages and Literature Conducted by the Calicut University, for the admissions commencing from 2016, with effect from the academic year 2016‐2017.
2.2 The School of Distance Education shall follow the regulations framed here in for Adib‐i‐
Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary course under the above faculty with effect from 2016 Admission.
3. DURATION. The Duration of Adib‐i‐Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course shall be two years.
4. DEFINITIONS 4.1 Letter Grade (L.G) is a letter symbol (A,B,C,D,E) which indicates the broad level of performance of a student for an individual answer /test/Subject/course. 4.2 Grade point (GP) is an integer indicating the numerical equivalent of the letter grade.
4.3 Weightage (W) is a measure of the comparative importance assigned to a question/test/subject, expressed in numerical terms.
4.4 weighted grade points (WGP) is the sum of weighted grade points divided by the sum of weights.
4.5 Grade Pointed Average (G.P.A) is the sum of weighted grade points divided by the sum of weights.

4.6 ‘Subject Grade Point Average’ (SGPA) is the sum of weighted grade points in all subjects divided by the sum of weights of all papers in that subject.
4.7 Cumulative Grade point average (CGPA) is the sum of weighted grade points in all subjects divided by the sum of weights of all subjects. Words and expressions used and not defined in these regulations but defined in the Calicut University Act and status shall have the meaning assigned to them in the Acts and Statues. ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSION
5.1 Candidates for the Adib‐i‐Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course examination shall be required to have passed or acquired eligibility for higher studies in SSLC examination or any other equivalent examination recognized by the university. 5.2 The criteria for selection of students to the course and regulations regarding the reservation of seats shall be as per the rules framed by the Government/University from the time to time.

7. Evaluation.
(1) Evaluation shall be carried out under Direct Grading System
The Mechanics of Direct Grading is as follows:
a) Direct Grading using a 5 point scale will be used to evaluate the performance of students as shown below.

b) In direct grading first of all each answer in an answer paper is evaluated on a five point scale using letter grades A,B,C,D and E. The overall grade of the answer is then obtained by the dividing the sum of weighted grade points by the sum of weightage.
c) The Board of Studies shall decide different types of questions to be set and assign their weights. The question paper shall carry the weights assigned to each question.
d) A student shall be declared to have passed the examination in a paper if he/she obtains minimum C grade in that paper.

e) A student is required to pass all papers of Part I, Part II and Part III inorder to be declared as passed in the Adib­i­Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary course. f) A student who desires for improving the performance in a paper of the first year, he/she can appear for the re­examination in the subsequent year on registering for re­examination.
g) The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of the student is calculated at the end of the course. h) For the successful completion of the Course and award of the Adib­i­
Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary course Certificate, a student must score a minimum of C grade separately for Part I, Part II and Part III.
8) Pass Condition
a) Appearance for the External Examination (EE) is compulsory and no Grade shall be awarded to a candidate if he/ she absent from EE
b) Minimum C Grade for External Examination is required for pass in a paper c) If a candidate is absent from the external examination he has to re appear the same absented papers.
d) Minimum C Grade is required for pass in each paper of Part I, Part II & Part III.
e) Minimum C grade is required for successful completion of Part I,II&III
f) The mark minimum for a pass in a paper shall be fixed 37% and for higher studies grant total 50% respectively g) The minimum grade for a pass in a paper or a group shall be fixed or changed to mark system as per the university direction time to time.
9) Improvement/ Re­appearance:
a) There shall be One improvement chance for each paper in order to secure a higher grade.
b) Improvement Chance can be availed during the course or within a year after the course.

c) A student who secures a Grade other than low grade in a paper is permitted to register for re­examination within 14 days after the publication of the result or within a minimum period decided by the University for improving the performance if he/she desires so and can appear for the examination in the subsequent chance.
d) If a candidate fails to appear for the re­examination for improvement after registration, or if there is no change/up in the gradation in the Grade after availing the improvement chance, the Grade secured in the first appearance will be retained.
e) There shall not be more than one improvement chance for a paper.
10. Moderation: a) Moderation shall be awarded subject to a maximum of 5 % of external total marks to be awarded in the annual Exam.
b) For a course concerned, the maximum of moderation awarded shall be limited to 10 % of the total marks to be awarded for the external course concerned.
c) If a student fails for a single course, this limit can be enhanced to 15 %of external in the course or as per university direction
10) Revaluation: Revaluations are applicable as per the University rules/norms
a) Students can apply for photocopies of answer scripts of external examinations. Applications for photocopies/Scrutiny/ revaluation should be submitted within 15 days of publication of results. The fee for this shall be as decided by the university, time to time
11). Continuation of the Course
A Candidate who has been registered for the examination at the end of the first year shall be permitted to continue the course of the study in the second year class irrespective of the results of the first year examinations.
12) Transitory Provision Not withstanding anything contained in these regulations. The Vice Chancellor shall for a period of two years from the date of coming in to 7
force of these regulations have the power to provide by order, modifications as may be necessary.
The Board shall also decide to use mark system instead of grading as and when necessary, if grading systems are out of use or as per instructions from the University.

Repeal The regulations now in force in so far as they are applicable to Adib­i­Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course offered by the School of Distance Education/Private study and to the extend they are inconsistent with these regulations are here by repealed. In the case of any inconsistency between the existing regulation and the new regulations relating to Adib­i­
Fazil(Urdu) Preliminary Course in their application the later shall prevail. 14. Question Paper Pattern
