CAMDPeerMentorPositionDescription
PositionOverview
CAMDPeerMentorswillbeintegralleadersinvolvedintheFirstYearSeminarcoursesaswell
asinvolvingstudentsinactivitiesbothintheirdepartmentandintheCollegeofArts,Media,
andDesign.EachFirstYearSeminarcoursewillbetaughtbyafacultyoradvisorineach
department.Thecoursewillbecomprisedoffirstsemesterfreshmanandtransferstudents.
ThePeerMentorwillattendclassandbeanallytothestudents,helpingprovideguidanceand
encouragementtothestudentsintheclassastheybegintoexploretheofferingsoftheir
major,departmentandNortheastern.PeerMentorswillberesponsibleforworkingcloselywith
studentsintheclasstodemonstratetheskillsneededtodevelopanunderstandingof
universitysystems,suchasmyNEU,myPAWSdegreeaudit,self-serviceregistrationand
searchingforcourses.ThePeerMentorswillalsohelpleaddiscussionsinclassandanyother
activitiesinclassthattheinstructordeemsneeded.Peermentorsarealsorequiredto
coordinateactivitiesoutsideofclassandtoparticipateindepartmentsponsoredeventsand
functionsasrequestedtohelpfirstsemesterstudentsbecomeawareofotheracademic
resourcesaswellasconnectwiththelargerNUCommunity.Insummary,PeerMentorsarein
placetosupportfirst-semesterstudentsintheirtransitiontocollege.

activities)
4-5hoursaweekforstudentsthatalsoindicateontheapplicationtheirinterestin
mentoringinternationalstudentsinCAMD

AttendrequiredSeptember5th,2016trainingsessionandfollow-upwithmidandend
ofsemestergroupmeetingswithPeerMentorliaisoninCAMDAdvising.Pleasenote
thattheremaybeadditionalmeetingsthroughoutthesemesterifneeded.
BepreparedtoleaddiscussionsandtrainingsessionsonmyNEU,MyPaws,andhowto
registerandsearchforclasses.Alsobepreparedtodiscussco-opandstudyabroad
experiencesalongwithyourowntipsforpreparingforthesecondyearofcollege.

roadblocks,orotherissuesrequiringadministrativelevelassistance
