Course Description:
This laboratory accompanies BSC2085. This course provides an introduction to the structure and functions of the
human body. Topics cover histology and study of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular and nervous systems. In a
lecture science course where there is a required co-requisite lab, students may withdraw from the lab class, but stay
in the lecture class. (Students may also choose to withdraw from both). Students will not be allowed to withdraw
from the lecture and remain enrolled in the lab. (*)

Course Learning Outcomes: As a result of taking this course, the student will be able to:
- Compare and contrast the anatomy and physiology of the human integumentary, skeletal, muscular and nervous
systems.
- Describe the structure and function of various cell types.
- Identify and give examples of different cell histology and stages of the cell cycle.
- Identify the bones and markings of the skeletal system.
- Relate muscle actions to their origins and insertions.
- Identify the basic structures of the brain, eye and ear..

Class Information
Equipment and Supplies Needed: Lab coat, closed-toe shoes, goggles, gloves, proper attire (clothing that do not allow
to have exposed skin (i.e. NO shorts or skirts)), long hair must be tied back at all times.

Professor’s Expectations: Students are expected to attend all class sessions, to be on time and be prepared for each
class (read lab units from lab book ahead of class meeting time). Students also will be responsible for all material
presented in class and in the labbook.
Academic Dishonesty Policy and Penalty for Violation:
Academic dishonesty includes the following actions, as well as other similar conduct aimed at making false
representation with respect to the student's academic performance: (1) Cheating on an exam, (2) Collaborating with
others on work to be presented, if contrary to the stated rules of the course,
(3) Submitting, if contrary to the rules of the course, work previously submitted in another course, (4) Knowingly and
intentionally assisting another student in any of the above actions, including assistance in an arrangement whereby
work, classroom performance, examination, or other activity is submitted or performed by a person other than the
student under whose name the work is submitted or performed, (5) Plagiarism (Professor will use SafeAssign plagarism
detection tools).
Penalty: Any dishonesty action will result on a zero (0) in the exam, quiz, or assigment. If any of these actions are
repeated, student will be removed for the class with a failing grade (F) for the class (it does not matter how well the
student is doing in the class).
Assignments, Tests, Quizzes and Final Exam Schedule, with percentage/points of grade:
Quizzes will consist of a mixture of T/F, multiple choice, matching, and short answer questions. Students must bring a
scantron for quizzes.
Practical Exams are standard for all students taking this class in the department. Practical exams consist of recognizing
the anatomical structures in specimens or models previously labeled by the Professor. Students will fill in the answers
in an answer sheet provided by the instructor. No multiple choice or word bank will be permitted and therefore no
scantron is necessary for practical exams

Attendance: Professors are required to take attendance.

Attendance will be taken regularly. Regular and timely attendance is expected and required.
Electronic Device Use and Email Policy:
Cell phones are to be silenced during class time. For an emergency call please tell the instructor and take the call outside
of the classroom. It should be a rare event that you must take a call during class. Laptops may be used to take notes. If it
is apparent that laptops are being used for other purposes, student will be dismissed from the class. Handheld PDAs
should not be used in class. Cell phones must be kept out of the student desk. First time, students will be warned
politely about the cell phone policy. The second time, student will be dismissed from the class and his/her name
removed from the roster .
Late Assignment Policy:
None
Make-up Exam Policy:
PLEASE Do not miss practical exams. No makeup practical exams will be allowed for these type of exams under any
circumstances. In very extreme cases, students will be allowed to take the practical exam with other Professor but it
must be in the same week scheduled for this exam.
Makeup quizzes will be available only in extreme emergency cases with a written letter for your absence, i.e. medical,
legal, etc. signed and dated by the party responsible for your absence. Students must inform me within 24 hours and
provide notice of their absence prior to the quiz or the day of the quiz. Makeup quizzes will not be given without such
timely notice. Makeup quizzes must be scheduled to be taken within five (5) days of the missed quiz.
Withdrawal Policy:
The last day to withdraw from a College course with a "W" grade in this course is JUNE 13, 2016.
It is the responsibility of the student to use the PantherWeb system or visit a campus Registrar’s office to withdraw.
An official withdrawal entitles the student to a grade of "W" in the class. Lab abd lecture classes are reuired to be taken
as well as withdrawn simultaneously

E-mail Policy: Students must use exclusively their Palm Beach State College e-mail account to
communicate with the Professor. E-mails coming from other accounts will be dismissed. When sending emails, students must provide basic information before asking a question (name, class, time). I will try to
respond e-mails promptly (24 hours or less) except week-end e-mails. Grades will be provided via the
college’s online grading system, in writing and/or in person, with the student only.

Classroom Etiquette and Student Behavior Guidelines
Students will demonstrate respect for professors and fellow students. Behavior that is disruptive to a positive learning environment
reported by the professor will result in a warning on the first instance; the second instance might result in expulsion from the course
or campus.
Computer Competency Component
Each student will, to the satisfaction of the professor, demonstrate a fundamental understanding of basic computer operations
through various professor-determined exercises and/or assignments.

Eating, Drinking and Smoking
Eating and drinking are confined to areas designated on the campus. Smoking is not permitted in any College building and only in
areas designated at each campus.
Final Course Grade Appeal
The evaluation of academic work is the responsibility of the faculty member/instructor. The method for assigning the final course
grade is established by the faculty member/instructor. Per Board Rule 6Hx-18-3.191, faculty/instructors shall communicate the
grading policy of the course to their students in writing. If this policy changes during the term, students should be notified of any
changes in writing. The method to determine final course grades must be given to students in a course syllabus at the beginning of
the class. Should a student have a question about a final course grade, please follow the procedures as outlined in the student

Mid-Term Grade Reporting
Within one week after the close of the mid-term grading period, mid-term grades will be made available to all students for each
class by either written notification or individual conference.
Student Responsibility Policy
When a student attends the College, s/he becomes subject to its jurisdiction. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a
responsible manner, in all areas of campus life. By enrolling, they pledge to obey the rules and regulations of the College and are
responsible for observing all College policies and procedures as published in the student handbook, the College catalog and other
