2016/2017 SOPHOMORE COURSE REQUEST PROCESS
For Current Freshmen Who Will Be Sophomores
Please discuss course placement with your current teachers. Teachers will be assigning course levels based on
the following:

Performance in your current class. In order to move up a level (ADV to Honors etc.) a student must have
an “A”.
In order to maintain a level, a student must have a “C” or better.
AP courses are available in some subjects. All require that the student be achieving an “A” in their
current honors level along with teacher/department recommendation.
Cooking classes are not available for 9th or 10th graders. Please do not choose a cooking class.

Be sure to provide an alternative elective for EACH elective you request. You must select a minimum of 3
alternate electives. Remember to rank them.

Drivers Education (Your birthday doesn’t determine the semester of your Driver Ed. You can get your

It is strongly recommended that you continue studying the same world language begun in the freshman year, as
opposed to selecting a new world language.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH: (SEE COURSE SELECTION GUIDE ON-LINE FOR A FULL LISTING)
Students will automatically be scheduled into PE 10 and Drivers Ed, but have the option to select the below
course in lieu of PE 10.

At least 5 credits in each area: Fine Arts (5 credits over four years) and Practical Arts (5 credits over four
years). Remember that courses in Business, Computers, Computer Programing courses, Family & Consumer
Sciences courses are considered Practical Arts. Some new electives include Peer Leadership (895) and Peer
Leadership II (896) for 2.5 credits each. They replace the previous Job Coaching volunteer position.




Be sure to input your Course Request during the designated time period. Failure to do so could result in not
getting the courses you want.
Faculty and specific mods requests ARE NOT a part of the scheduling process and will not be honored.
Minimum credit requirement per year is 35. More than 42.5 credits will require a lunch waiver signed by a
parent or guardian.
SUMMARY OF STEPS
Review the above directions along with the Course Selection Guide.
Input your course requests via Aspen by January 26th.
Print out your Course Request Verification Sheet.
Have your parent/guardian sign the Course Request Verification Sheet.
If you are taking more than 3 AP classes, then your Course Verification Sheet must be signed by Mr.
Broan, the Assistant Principal.
Bring the Course Request Verification Sheet to the Guidance Office by January 26th.
*FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE ABOVE STEPS WILL RESULT IN YOUR COURSE SELECTION SHEET BEING
RETURNED FOR PROPER COMPLETION WHICH COULD DELAY OR IMPACT GETTING THE COURSES YOU WANT*
