Message from the Teacher
We have been learning subtraction with
regrouping (borrowing). This is a real
challenging concept for some second graders.
It takes a lot of practice before it really sinks
in. PLEASE work with your child nightly by
having him/her complete the problems on the
backside. Make sure they are showing all of
their work. We have a saying in class that we
use. “Bigger, Bottom, Borrow!” Your child should
be able to explain this to you and show you what
it means. At this point it is perfectly
acceptable for students to draw a model
demonstrating their work.

*This week’s list is working with vowel
dipthongs of the sound /oi/. The letters oi and
oy are used to make the /oi/ sound. The last
five are this week’s mystery words.
Remember our pretest is on Wednesday!

monitor your child’s progress to ensure
they keep on track.
*We are studying penguins! We will be
learning many interesting facts about these
funny birds. Ask your child to tell you at
least three facts by the end of the week.
